The best wedding photo locations in Cheshire
Cheshire is home to some truly beautiful wedding venues, many of which provide incredible backdrops for unforgettable photographs. From grand historic halls to elegant country estates and romantic gardens, Cheshire offers endless opportunities to capture the atmosphere and emotion of a wedding day.
As a wedding photographer in Cheshire, finding locations that combine natural light, interesting architecture, and peaceful surroundings can make all the difference. Fortunately, this area has no shortage of stunning settings. Here are a few of my favourite Cheshire wedding venues that consistently deliver opportunities for beautiful wedding photography.
Abbeywood Estate – gardens and woodland walks
Set within acres of landscaped gardens and woodland, Abbeywood Estate offers one of the most picturesque wedding environments in Cheshire. The venue’s gardens provide colour and texture throughout the year, making them perfect for relaxed couple portraits.
One standout location is the Japanese-inspired garden area, with its tranquil water features, elegant planting and peaceful pathways. It’s a wonderful spot for quiet, romantic photographs away from the main celebration.
The surrounding woodland also creates beautiful opportunities for natural, documentary-style images. Soft filtered light through the trees is ideal for relaxed portraits, especially during golden hour.

Colshaw Hall – the walled gardens
Colshaw Hall is another exceptional Cheshire venue, known for its elegant Georgian architecture and immaculate grounds. One of the most striking wedding photography locations here is the walled garden.
With perfectly maintained lawns, seasonal flowers, and charming pathways, the space offers a classic English garden setting that feels both intimate and timeless. The symmetry of the gardens also works beautifully for wide shots and romantic couple portraits.
The hall itself provides a stunning architectural backdrop, particularly for evening photos as the light softens and the building begins to glow.

Knowsley Hall – grand and dramatic interiors
For couples who love a sense of history and grandeur, Knowsley Hall provides some of the most impressive interiors in the region. The ornate rooms, sweeping staircases, and dramatic ceilings create a luxurious atmosphere that is perfect for wedding photography.
The main staircase in particular is a standout feature. Its scale and elegance make it ideal for dramatic bridal portraits or group photographs with a real sense of occasion.

Old Palace, Chester – historic charm by the river
Located beside the River Dee, Old Palace Chester blends historic architecture with lovely outdoor spaces. The riverside setting provides a relaxed and romantic backdrop, particularly for sunset photographs when the light reflects beautifully on the water.

Thornton Hall – the elegant pergola
Thornton Hall offers landscaped gardens and elegant outdoor spaces perfect for stunning wedding photography. As a wedding photographer, one of my favourite spots to capture intimate couple shots is the elegant pergola overlooking the lake.

Wedding photography in Cheshire
Every wedding venue has its own hidden corners and unique light throughout the day. An experienced wedding photographer will know how to use these spaces creatively to capture authentic, natural moments as they unfold.
Cheshire’s venues provide incredible backdrops, but the most memorable wedding photography always comes from the people, emotions, and atmosphere that make each wedding day truly unique.
