Blog Archives

As a wedding photographer based in Flintshire, I’m ideally placed for weddings across Cheshire, North Wales and Chester. This means I get to work at some truly fabulous venues: I believe that Cheshire and North Wales really do have some of the finest wedding venues in the UK.

As a wedding photographer in Cheshire, I often get asked which are my favourite wedding venues to shoot at in this beautiful county, and beyond. So, I decided to start to put together a run down of my most-loved wedding venues throughout the North West. This will be a mini-series, with each blog shining a spotlight on a couple of my favourite venues. This month I’ll be focusing on two wedding venues in Cheshire

Wedding Photographer in Cheshire

When it comes to venues that provide the perfect backdrop for wedding photography, Cheshire is hard to beat. Cheshire has an abundance of country manor houses, fairytale castles, chic hotels, and beautiful wedding barns, so whatever the theme of your wedding you will be sure to find the ideal venue in Cheshire.

As a wedding photographer, it’s a pleasure to shoot at Cheshire venues: there is such diversity in terms of the type of venue available, and most are situated in the stunning Cheshire countryside which makes the perfect backdrop for wedding photography!

So without further ado, here are the first two of my favourite Cheshire wedding venues to shoot at, along with a sneak peek of some beautiful wedding photography from each venue…

Cheshire Woodland Weddings

Something a little different to start with! Cheshire Woodland Weddings is a stunning Cheshire wedding venue with lots of opportunities for beautiful wedding photography, but on top of that guests can enjoy outdoor activities such as archery, crazy golf and shooting!

Cheshire Woodland Weddings is the ideal venue to embrace the great outdoors, and couples can exchange their vows within an enchanting thatched shelter nestled in 15 acres of Cheshire woodland, with their guests taking in the view.

As an extra special touch, couples can arrange for their wedding rings being flown in by an owl! Those of you who know me will know that I’ve previously had a funny experience with a ring bearing owl, but luckily the owl at Cheshire Woodland Weddings seems to be far better behaved!

Being a wedding photographer at Cheshire Woodland Weddings is a completely unique experience, literally a breath of fresh air! This venue provides the perfect opportunity for guests to truly take in the great outdoors, with the chance to sample archery, shooting, and crazy golf! It was great for me to be the wedding photographer at such a unique wedding.

Guests can enjoy a post-ceremony glass of fizz in the woodland and at the nearby waterside gazebo, and the wedding breakfast takes place in a beautifully rustic barn which has a capacity of up to 200 guests, which features a fully licensed bar, space to eat, drink and celebrate!!

This is also the ideal Cheshire venue to capture some stunning images as night falls. The festoon lights draped in the trees are magical, and offer the ideal backdrop for romantic wedding photography

Abbeywo
od Estate, Cheshire

Abbeywood is a 45 Acre Estate nestling in the Delamere Countryside, right in the heart of Cheshire. It’s the ideal setting for a wedding ceremony, with elegant rooms and beautiful grounds. Surrounded by the Cheshire countryside, it has lots of beautiful backdrops for wedding photography, so I always make the most of the backdrop to capture some creative shots in the grounds.

Couples can opt for an outdoor ceremony in The Gazebo, a lovely structure situated just outside of the orangery in the Exotic garden. This is always the perfect opportunity to capture some fantastic wedding photography.

The gardens on the estate are the ideal place to capture some romantic shots of the couple while guests enjoy drinks on the terrace. Abbeywood is also the perfect venue for drone photography!

Wedding breakfasts are held in the Glasshouse: an incredible space which caters up to 190+ guests. The Glasshouse is elegant, light and airy (perfect for me as a wedding photographer!), and is linked by a glass walkway to the Orangery.

Hopefully this has been a useful glimpse into two of Cheshire’s finest wedding venues. Stay tuned for more instalments where I’ll be shining a light on more of the Cheshire venues that I love to work at as a wedding photographer.

If you are thinking of getting married at either of these venues (or any venue in Cheshire, Chester or North Wales) I would love to discuss your plans for the day and offer some tips and advice on your wedding photography- please get in touch for a chat.

As a wedding photographer in North Wales, Tyn Dwr Hall is one of my absolute favourite venues to shoot at. This beautiful venue boasts all the features that are straight from a wedding photographer’s wish list: think handcrafted fireplaces, stained-glass windows and dark wood staircases inside, and romantic waterfalls bordered by trees and wildflowers outside. So when Gemma and George asked me to photograph their wedding this summer, of course I jumped at the chance to work at one of the loveliest venues in North Wales!

I’ve shot weddings in Tyn Dwr Hall in all weathers (and have got the rainy day shots with umbrellas as props to prove it!) And whilst this venue is gorgeous in any weather, it was brilliant to see the sun shining on Gemma and George’s big day. It made for the perfect summer wedding in the North Wales countryside. When I arrived in the morning, I couldn’t resist capturing some shots of this stunning venue in the sunshine.

Gemma and George’s wedding at Tyn Dwr Hall, North Wales

My day began when I went to meet Gemma and her bridal party getting ready at the venue. It’s always a privilege to be involved in this part of the day, and spending the morning with Gemma, her mum, and her bridesmaids was a lovely way to start the day.

I also spent some time with George and his groomsmen who were making the most of the venue’s sunny grounds and gardens before the ceremony.

One of my favourite things about being a wedding photographer is seeing the bride’s father see his daughter in her dress for the first time, and it’s always a privilege to capture these photos. I also took stunning photos of Gemma and her dad walking down Tyn Dwr’s ornate staircase as they set off for the ceremony, and the special moment when Gemma’s dad walked her down the aisle.

It was so lucky that the sun was shining, as Gemma and George had decided on an outdoor ceremony in Tyn Dwr’s beautiful gardens. As a wedding photographer, I was really excited as I knew it would be a perfect opportunity to capture some gorgeous shots.

Afterwards, the guests mingled on the lawns and we took some fantastic group shots with the Hall making an impressive backdrop. I love the images I captured of Gemma, George and their guests enjoying the sunshine at the gorgeous North Wales venue.

I also managed to take some time with just the bride and groom to capture some beautiful photos of them together for the first time as a married couple.

Then it was into Tyn Dwr Hall’s lovely Garden Room for the wedding breakfast. The Garden Room is the perfect space to celebrate, with lots of natural light streaming in through the large floor-to-ceiling windows that look out across the grounds and rolling North Wales hills.

As the evening fell, the guests enjoyed a fabulous evening reception, and I was able to get a little more time with Gemma and George to capture some romantic shots in the twilight. As ever, it was a perfect day at Tyn Dwr Hall, and just reminded me how much I love being a wedding photographer in North Wales!

Soughton Hall in North Wales is one of my favourite venues to shoot at, so I was thrilled when Jasmine and Josh asked me to photograph their wedding at this beautiful venue.

I’m a wedding photographer in Cheshire and North Wales, and Soughton Hall is actually just down the road for me in Flintshire. It’s one of the venues I shoot at most frequently, and it’s not hard to see why it’s such a favourite for couples who are getting married. Soughton Hall is a stunning Georgian country house approached down a sweeping driveway and surrounded by landscaped gardens. I knew it would be a beautiful wedding, and I certainly wasn’t disappointed.

Jasmine and Josh’s Wedding at Soughton Hall, North Wales

On the morning of the wedding I was thrilled to see the sun shining: perfect wedding weather! As I arrived at the venue I couldn’t resist taking some shots of Soughton Hall in the sunshine.

First off, I joined Jasmine and her bridal party to capture some bridal prep shots. As a wedding photographer, I love being involved in bridal prep: it’s such a fun and exciting part of the day. I took some stunning shots of Jasmine looking out at the venue’s grounds, as well as capturing the details of her beautiful dress and bouquet.

It was wonderful to see Jasmine’s parents’ and sisters’ reactions when they saw her in her dress for the first time, and it made for some lovely wedding photography.

Jasmine and Josh chose to have their ceremony in the beautiful Drawing Room which is fabric lined in blue and gold and features a fresco painted ceiling with chandeliers. Soughton Hall even allowed a very special guest to make an appearance!

After the ceremony we all enjoyed mingling in the sunshine in the grounds of the Hall, with the North Wales countryside as the backdrop.

I also took the opportunity to spend a little time with Jasmine and Josh to capture some romantic images of them as a couple. As a wedding photographer, one of my favourite things about Soughton Hall is the grounds and gardens. Some of my favourite photographs have been taken in the venue’s picturesque Secret Garden: overlooking the southern façade of the Hall, and shaded by eucalyptus trees, this atmospheric garden really is perfect for some magical wedding photography.

We then moved inside for the wedding breakfast. Couples getting married at Soughton Hall tend to choose the marquee for their wedding reception: it’s a lovely, elegant space that lends itself to any type of venue dressing. The Marquee overlooks the wooded gardens and is accessed directly from the house through a glass walkway.

After dinner I was able to pop outside again with Jasmine and Josh to capture some beautiful wedding photography in the late-afternoon sun. We took advantage of Soughton Hall’s elegant exterior to create the perfect setting.

Then it was time for the evening reception, with the huge light-up “LOVE” making an ideal backdrop for some eye-catching photos!

Before the day was over, we managed to sneak in a little time for some romantic photos of the bride and groom as night fell: the perfect end to the perfect day in North Wales.
